25th May Kitchen arrives

Today I drove past at just the right moment as the fences are fixed and we are completely locked out. And what did I find, My Building Supervisor Paul and my Kitchen (minus stone bench tops) He tells me the Tiler is coming next week followed by the painters and the garage door will go on Monday. I confirmed the paint colour with him as we made a late change. And I can now tell the R/E we should be leaving in 12 weeks! (the owner wants to put this house up for sale once we leave)

May16 2012 internal linings complete

Well it looks like we better pay that second last progress payment. And Damn that fence is still not high enough, it dips down near that big window so we are going to have to grow that vine after all, it will look better than a tin fence.

Not sure why things happen as they do, plastering not finished but carpenter hanging doors and starting skirting. Today (May 15) they are back doing cornices.

The gyprock is up all except cornices, now it looks lighter inside and I am less concerned about needing down lights. Finally Dan says "he can see it" and is getting excited. Cheeky accounts have already sent us the invoice for internal linings complete, well they are not quite so I am not authorizing it just yet. This is the second last payment, with only 23,000 left to pay on completion which still seems so far away. I am thinking about 3 months.Oh and this is the wrong front door, we were to get clear glass, the obscure was more expensive, waiting to see how it looks before I say anything, I can see pros and cons for both.

May 7

Today the gyp-rock arrived, and did they use the vacant block and back yard access to deliver it via a triple stacker door, no that would of been the easy way! They smashed through the frame of the house dislodging the wiring and wall insulation, and deliberately removed the stakes holding up our tree in the street so they could drive over it and kill it! Our Site manager is great, Paul rang me and said he is going to have them billed for the inconvenience...and well we will just have to wait and see if the tree survives it's crack in the trunk.

The yard has been cleaned up, it's so easy to imagine my big timber deck and gardens now. Tomorrow they start the gyprocking....and before I know it we will be only able to peek in the windows! Yay...

1st of May

We have a new building supervisor Paul, met him on site yesterday, was able to let me know how some of the little gaps would get filled, and assured me they would remove the water from the pipe in the kitchen that the electrical wiring runs through to the island bench. So all good. Tyrell's inspection this week, roof to be completed and bats arriving late this week ready for gyp-rockers next week.
So today the water tank was plumbed in and Nick was quite distressed to see a "do not drink" sign over the back tap, as he had before. I assured him it was not joined to roof then and he had been drinking town water. The roof capping has been completed and safety rails should be removed in the next day or so. Our neighbour is fencing so we will have a side fence soon. Dan is quite shocked at the distance between us and the fence thinking we had 1.5 m from the eave but it's from the slab, so just hoping it won't feel too claustrophobic.

streetscape end of April 2012

Well the first lot of tenants have moved into some of the Thomas Paul homes, and our street is starting to look a bit less like a construction zone. This is our next door neighbour, also a Thomas Paul home for rent, $420-$440 a week sheesh! that's a mortgage!
